Degree conferral

All degree candidates at IU Indianapolis must apply to graduate. Each degree-granting school has its own application process; for questions about a particular school’s process, contact that school’s recorder. Candidates must submit their applications by the priority deadlines, which are listed in the official calendar.

To ensure that degrees are awarded in a timely manner and that all graduates are counted in official university statistics, schools must adhere to the conferral deadlines, which are listed in the official calendar.

Posthumous degrees

In the unfortunate event that a student dies before completing the requirements for a degree, arrangements can be made for a degree to be awarded posthumously.

Commencement

IU Indianapolis holds its Commencement ceremony in May each year. To be eligible to participate in the ceremony, a student must have completed all degree requirements by May or plan to complete them by August of that year. Those whose degrees were conferred in December of the previous year also are eligible to participate.
